is exploiting nature for personal gain a use for the common man? people need to exploit the environment for resources and those resources come up short sometimes yet sustain humans and have sustained humans for the longest time. should we concentrate on stopping to exploit the environment at the cost of ourselves or should we continue to exploit the environment for ourselves?

The inherent debate is conservation vs preservation. Many examples in nature show that the exhaustion of resources ultimately is detrimental to humans too. We lose the resources we exploit and harvest, leaving them helpless to replenish and grow back.
